Job Description

Implement the Ayers Scholars Program in assigned partner high schools. Counsel high school and college students and provide high-touch interactions to ensure postsecondary eligibility requirements are maintained and barriers are identified and mitigated. Assist students as they articulate their goals after high school and identify the education needed to realize those goals. Support students through completion of their postsecondary education. 

 

Student and Family Interaction Indicators

  • Organize individual and/or group services for 8th – 12th-grade students and their families to prepare students for a successful transition to the postsecondary education that aligns with students’ individual career goals. Continue to communicate with students through postsecondary completion to ensure each student is successful.
  • Assist each eligible student in applying for Tennessee Promise during their Senior year. Conduct Tennessee Promise mandatory meetings with each student as required. Assist students in completing community service for Tennessee Promise as needed.
  • Assist students to find and secure financial aid, scholarships, and grants. Help students and families apply for financial aid annually and comply with all necessary financial aid deadlines and requirements.
  • Coordinate the submission of college applications, high school transcripts, and postsecondary acceptance requirements to ensure successful matriculation into postsecondary education. 
  • Coordinate group and/or individual college tours, visits, signing events, or orientation/registration sessions.  
  • In high schools where Ayers Scholarships are distributed, manage implementation of the Ayers Scholarship in partnership with the Ayers Scholars Program Scholarship Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Tracking and Data Indicators

  • Maintain ongoing data collection on student college preparation progress and success (e.g., student rosters, student demographic information, Tennessee Promise meetings, financial aid awarded, college enrollment status, college enrollment documentation, etc.) and complete reports documenting progress and outcome data as required.
  • Operate within the approved budget, seeking ways to reduce costs while maintaining excellence in providing key Ayers Scholars Program services.

 

Communication/Partnerships Indicators

  • Establish productive working relationships with central office staff, principals, counselors, and teachers in assigned partner high school.
  • Foster broad communitywide awareness of The Ayers Scholars Program by distributing information to students, parents/guardians, and community members.
  • Communicate with postsecondary staff (e.g., admissions recruiters,  financial aid staff, etc.) to ensure a strong relationship between postsecondary institutions and the Ayers Foundation Trust.

Reporting:

  • This position reports to the Regional Director. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor's degree required
  • Five years of counseling experience preferred
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents/guardians, and educational institutions
