New Volunteer Opportunity!

Volunteer Opportunity:

The newly opened Ray Smith Family Distribution Center of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee located in the Industrial Park in Camden, Tennessee has opportunities for community service hours.

In case you are not familiar with Second Harvest, the organization collects food from food drives, individual food donations, and area grocery stores and then distributes it to community agencies that then hand it out to needy families here in West Tennessee.

One very important step in this process is sorting the food that comes into the food bank so that agencies can get just what they need as opposed to a variety of food that may or may not be able to be used by the agency. This is where you come in because it takes lots of folks to get this done.

Currently the warehouse in Camden has around 30,000 pounds of food that needs to be sorted before it can be released to agencies and put on the tables of hungry people here in West Tennessee; that 30,000 pounds translates into 25,000 meals! We cannot do this without help from the community

Anyone age 12 and up can come to one of our 4 shifts a week and spend 2.5 hours helping to get food to the people that need it.

The regular shifts are:

Monday 3:30-6:00 pm

Tuesday 5:30-8:00 pm

Thursday 9:00-11:30 am

1st, 3rd, and 5th Fridays 9:00-11:30 am

2nd and 4th Saturdays 9:00-11:30 am

Each shift can accommodate up to 30 people and do count toward Tennessee Promise Hours.
